NDEP Recycling Curriculum - Frequently Asked Questions

The following list of questions was gathered from various sources during the development phase of the curriculum and hopefully the responses will help you better understand our curriculum and how it was developed.

1. How long did it take to develop the curriculum?

2. How did you decide on the topics to cover?

3. How did you choose and / or develop the lessons and activities?

4. How many people were involved in the process and what types of backgrounds did they bring (i.e. teachers, curriculum specialists, solid waste educators, etc.)?

5. How did you decide on the one-hour and ten week timeframes?

6. How do the lessons fit together? Do they build on each other?

8. I'm assuming Nevada schools have curriculum standards ("benchmarks") that need to be met in each grade. Did you start with the standards and build lessons from them or did you start with the lessons and try to make them meet the standards (or were you even worried about standards)?

9. Is the curriculum something that teachers can pick up and run with, or do they need training, or does NDEP staff do all of the teaching?

10. How did you introduce the curriculum to teachers and get them to use it?

11. You mentioned class experiences. What kind of revisions are you making based on this experience?

12. What did the teachers and students think of these lessons?

13. Would it be possible to see a table of contents and a sample lesson from the curriculum? — Yes.
